Melendez Named Vice Chair of Assembly Budget Committee

"I don't believe in gimmicks and I don't believe in creative math."

Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore) has been named Vice Chairwoman of the Assembly Budget Committee for the new Assembly session beginning Jan 5.

“I look forward to working with Melissa as the new Vice Chair of the Assembly’s Budget Committee, where she will be a tenacious advocate for fiscal responsibility and holding the majority party accountable for its spending decisions,” said Assembly Minority Leader Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto). “As Vice Chair, Melissa will maintain her position as a strong leader and watchdog for California taxpayers.”

Melendez will also serve as the Vice Chair of the Assembly Public Safety Committee as well as a member of the Transportation Committee.

“I believe the taxpayers of California deserve responsible use of their hard-earned tax dollars and I’m proud to be in a position that will allow me to give them what they expect,” Melendez said. “I don’t believe in gimmicks and I don’t believe in creative math. I believe if we have the money, we should spend it responsibly, save some for the future and don’t spend future generations into debt. Californians can be reassured, I’m watching out for their money.”

Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez represents the 67th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar and a portion of Hemet. It also includes the Riverside County unincorporated areas of Lake Mathews, Good Hope, Nuevo, and Winchester. She is also a United States Navy Veteran and serves as Vice-Chair of the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
