Menifee Driver Arrested In Fatal 215 Freeway Crash

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 30-year-old woman who was struck and killed on Interstate 215 last week was identified over the weekend by the coroner's office, and the driver who allegedly hit her was arrested on suspicion of leaving her to die at the scene.

Carol Omo Aba of Perris was killed in the crash that was reported at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, May 29, on southbound I-215 near Placentia Avenue in Perris.

The California Highway Patrol issued a late-night May 30 news release that said Omo Aba was walking on the freeway from Placentia Avenue when a Ford F-150 truck hit her.

With help from tipsters and the Menifee Police Department, the truck and driver were found in Menifee.

Fernando Velasquez Acosta, 41, of Menifee was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, hit-and-run, driving without a valid license, and vehicular manslaughter.

“The resolution of this incident was made possible through the combined efforts of our community and allied agencies”, said the CHP's Riverside Area Commander, Captain Steve Branconier.
