Menifee DUI Checkpoint Results In 6 Arrests, 11 Citations

MENIFEE, CA – Six people were arrested and 11 were cited during a DUI and driver's license checkpoint in Menifee, police said.

The checkpoint was held Saturday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. near the intersection of Newport Road and Lone Pine Drive.

The checkpoint resulted in six arrests, including:

• One driver arrested for alcohol-related DUI
• Two drivers arrested for driving while on a suspended driver's license
• One driver arrested for having a misdemeanor warrant
• One driver arrested for being under the influence of drugs, felony transportation and sales of illegal drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia
• One passenger arrest for felony drug transportation and sales charges, and for possession of drug paraphernalia

Eleven citations were also issued for various vehicle code violations, and seven vehicles were impounded, according to Menifee Police Department.

The agency said its checkpoint locations are based on a history of DUI related crashes and arrests. The purpose of the checkpoints is to promote public safety by deterring motorists from driving while impaired.

"The Menifee Police Department is 100% committed to preventing, deterring, and arresting impaired drivers in the City of Menifee, and this commitment will remain a top priority," police said.

Menifee police said it will conduct another DUI and driver's license checkpoint in the future, but did not release a date.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
