Menifee Police Chief Retires, New Acting Chief Selected
Menifee says farewell to Police Chief Chris Karrer in his retirement, after five years with the city.

MENIFEE, CA — Menifee's Chief of Police Chris Karrer has announced retirement following nearly 25 years of law enforcement service, including over five years with the Menifee Police Department. Captain Dave Gutierrez has been named the acting Chief of Police in his place, according to Menifee City Manager, Armando G. Villa.
Chief of Police Chris Karrer announced his retirement Friday, according to a city news release. "He has filed his retirement paperwork with CalPERS," a city spokesperson shared with Patch.
Karrer released a statement on his time in Menifee over the past five years, saying:

“As I reflect on a fulfilling career, I am very thankful for my time here in Menifee and am looking forward to my retirement,” said Chief Karrer. “I have full confidence that the department will continue to thrive thanks to the exceptional men and women who serve and protect our community each and every day.”
Since its launch in 2020, the Menifee Police Department has grown to over 120 officers and support personnel, not only helping to keep the community safe, but positioning Menifee as one of the safest cities in California.

Gutierrez has been with the Menifee Police Department, and a key member of their Executive Team, since its launch in 2020. He is a 24-year law enforcement veteran, and has led many specialty units throughout his career including traffic,
problem-oriented policing, code enforcement, animal services, and crime scene investigation, according to the news release.
He also recently completed the internationally renowned FBI National Academy, which provides extensive training in advanced communication and leadership for a select group of executive-level officers each year in Quantico, Virginia.
The city manager's office released a statement about Karrer and Gutierrez in the city recently named one of the safest in the nation, saying:
“We are thankful for Chief Karrer’s contributions to the Menifee community and wish him all the best in his retirement. Public Safety remains a top priority for our City Council. During this transition, we are grateful for Captain Gutierrez’ leadership and will ensure that the department has the support and resources it needs for its continued success as we evaluate our next steps.”
