5 Marines Injured After Convoy Vehicle Crashes On I-215: Menifee

The solo-vehicle crash involving a 30,000-pound USMC Oshkosh cargo truck with an attached trailer prompted an hours-long Sigalert.

MENIFEE, CA — A U.S. Marine Corps vehicle carrying five service members overturned on Interstate 215, near McCall Boulevard in Menifee, injuring all aboard Wednesday afternoon.

The solo-vehicle crash involving a 30,000-pound USMC Oshkosh cargo truck with an attached trailer was reported at 12:44 p.m. The vehicle was part of a military convoy, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The USMC truck and trailer came to a rest down a dirt embankment, just west of the I-215 southbound lanes.

Paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and found the five Marines suffering moderate to minor injuries. Their identities were not released. Three Marines were transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley and the other two were sent to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, according to the CHP.

A Sigalert was issued at 1 p.m. for southbound I-215, just south at McCall, and was expected to remain in place until at least 5 p.m., according to the CHP.

The slow lane on the southbound side of the freeway was closed, and crews were checking for a possible fuel spill, according to the CHP.

The overturned rig was being towed away by the USMC, according to the CHP.

CHP officers were investigating the crash.
