Missing Man Found In Winchester Field, Investigation Continues

WINCHESTER, CA — A 76-year-old man who went missing this week in Winchester was found lying in a field suffering from dehydration, hypothermia and exhaustion, according to the sheriff's department, and the agency is continuing to investigate why it happened.

The man, whose identity was not released, left his home in the 31200 block of Jan Steen Court at 1 p.m. Tuesday to go for a walk, but he did not return, according to the sheriff's department.

The agency was called, and a deputy responded to the area shortly before 8 p.m. that night, the department reported.

A search for the missing man got underway. The effort included deputies on the ground, a bloodhound and a Riverside County Sheriff Department’s helicopter, according to the agency.

Finally, at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy searching a field on the east side of Winchester Road, south of Thompson Road, found the man down and in medical distress, the sheriff's department reported.

Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital. As of Thursday, the sheriff's department reported that he was in stable condition.

"His disappearance and why he was in the field is still under investigation," according to the sheriff's department.
