Murrieta Burglary Spree Thwarted, Suspect Caught Asleep At The Wheel

Murrieta police arrested two suspects at the Pacific Landing Apartments, one caught napping at the wheel, after a night full of burglaries.

MURRIETA, CA — Two suspects were arrested in Murrieta on suspicion of committing multiple burglaries from parked cars in the area of the Pacific Landing Apartments, Murrieta Police reported.

Just after midnight Saturday, police were called to the 36000 block of Creighton Avenue, where a suspicious person was spotted trolling through the parking area.

Police arrived to find two men, both on probation, in a car parked in the lot. One of whom was asleep behind the wheel, according to the post.

"Officers found the man standing near a vehicle and quickly located his accomplice, who was asleep in the driver's seat," they wrote. "Who knew breaking into vehicles was such a tiring job?"

Upon further investigation, the property found inside the car was connected to multiple burglaries committed throughout the night, an officer wrote.

"It took most of the day and a lot of work by officers, but most of the property was returned to their rightful owners," a department spokesperson wrote on Facebook. Among the stolen property was an electric guitar, pictured above.

According to police, an observant resident reported seeing something unusual, leading officers to the parking area.


Over 100 residents responded in comments, some adding their thanks and support while others were concerned that the suspects would be quickly returned to the streets.

Police declined to mention whether the men are still being held, as the investigation is ongoing.
