Murrieta City Council Races Heat Up As Deadline Nears

In Murrieta, two city council seats are up for grabs during the November 3 Presidential General Election.

MURRIETA, CA — Thinking about running for Murrieta City Council, or know someone who should? The nomination deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday for non-incumbents.

In Murrieta, two city council seats are up for grabs during the November 3 Presidential General Election: Districts 3, which encompasses the city's west side, and District 4, which includes Murrieta's central area. Candidates must reside in the district they wish to serve. Find your district here.

Terms for current council members Gene Wunderlich and Kelly Seyarto expire in December. Wunderlich is not seeking re-election; Seyarto (R) is running in the 67th Assembly District race.

According to the city of Murrieta, five people have already announced their candidacy for the council: Lori Stone (District 4); Lisa Deforest (District 3); Steven Brown (District 3); David Kolk (District 4); and John Kesler (District 3). Stone, Deforest and Kolk have qualified for the ballot as of August 10.
