Murrieta Fire & Rescue, Water District To Upgrade Fire Hydrants For Wildfire Preparedness

The project will upgrade 16 existing fire hydrants in the coming weeks, the agency said.

MURRIETA, CA — Murrieta Fire & Rescue and the Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) are partnering on an infrastructure improvement project aimed at strengthening wildfire preparedness and emergency response capabilities in the Knolls community.

The project will upgrade 16 existing fire hydrants in the coming weeks, providing additional connection points intended to give firefighters greater flexibility during emergency operations, Murrieta Fire & Rescue said.

All existing hydrants currently meet the Fire & Rescue Department's operational needs, officials said. The upgrades are intended to expand available connection options rather than address deficiencies in the existing system.

Minimal underground construction is anticipated as part of the project, and EMWD will coordinate with residents who may be affected by the work.

Murrieta City Council Member Cindy Warren, EMWD board member Phil Paule, EMWD Director of Water Operations Chris Wagner and Fire Chief Bernard Molloy discuss the project and what residents can expect in a video presentation released this week.
