Murrieta Nonprofits Encouraged To Apply For CDBG Money

The federal funding is distributed through the city, and nonprofits that serve Murrieta residents have until Oct. 27 to apply.

MURRIETA, CA — Nonprofit organizations that serve Murrieta residents could receive federal funding to help their causes.

The city of Murrieta is now accepting applications for the 2023/2024 Community Development Block Grant cycle.

The CDBG program is a federally funded program that annually awards grants to local governments for the purpose of improving residents' lives, especially those with low- and moderate-income levels.

Murrieta nonprofits can now apply for a portion of the city's $590,000 2023/2024 annual CDBG allotment. Of that amount, up to 15% ($88,500) can go to nonprofits. Funds must be used between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.

In order to qualify, CDBG-funded projects must satisfy one of three national program objectives:

  • Provide a benefit to low- and moderate-income persons,
  • Prevent or eliminate slums and blight, or
  • Meet other urgent community development needs due to natural disasters or other emergencies.

“Murrieta is an engaged community in part because of programs such as CDBG. This program supports nonprofits that improve the quality of life for Murrieta residents. Our Community Development Block Grant program also supports the City Council goal of delivering responsive and effective community services,” said Murrieta City Manager Kim Summers.
