Murrieta Students Craft 6,497 Valentines for Vets
Seven elementary schools and one middle school collectively crafted the valentines to be sent to veterans and active duty service members.
Nearly 6,500 handcrafted valentines are already on their way to veterans and active U.S. Military, care of students in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District and some dedicated volunteers.
Seven elementary schools and one middle school participated in Murrieta Valley Council PTA's this year to make a total of 6,497 valentines, said Mary Kelley, MVC PTA president, in an email to Patch.
The winning school, , made 1,877. made 475, made 700, chipped in 850, made 818, made 514, 884, and 379.

Superintendent Dr. Stan Scheer plans to present the traveling trophy to Alta Murrieta during its flag ceremony Friday.
The valentines will be distributed to Loma Linda University Medical Center Veteran's Hospital, Camp Pendleton, Balboa Island, Kelley said, and 3,000 valentines will be loaded onto Military aircraft from March Air Reserve Base today to be flown to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
