Murrieta Woman Murdered; Husband Arrested: Police

"Based on the investigation, the death did not appear to be accidental or self-inflicted," police said.

MURRIETA, CA- Murrieta police are investigating the death of a woman whose death appears “suspicious,” police say.

According to Murrieta Police Lt. Ron Driscoll, authorities were called to the Camden Vineyards Apartments in the 24300 block of Jackson, near California Oaks Road, at 10:24 a.m. Thursday.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a 41-year-old Hispanic female deceased,” Driscoll said in a news release. “The circumstances surrounding the death appeared suspicious, which prompted detectives from the Murrieta Police Department to assume the investigation.”

Coroner’s officials were also called out to the scene to investigate the woman’s death, the lieutenant said.

“Based on the investigation, the death did not appear to be accidental or self-inflicted,” he said.

The exact cause of death won’t be known until an autopsy is completed, he added.

Detectives questioned the woman’s husband, identified as Vincent Steven Elmer, 49. They ultimately arrested him on suspicion of murder, according to Driscoll. He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on $1 million bail, according to jail records.

“Because the case is still an active and on-going, no additional details will be released at this time,” he said.

The woman wasn’t immediately identified.
