Nighthawks Roll Past Linfield, 51-36

Murrieta Valley rebounds from season opening loss to beat Linfield Christian in the second round of the Citrus Hill Big Daddy Tournament on Wednesday.

The Murrieta Valley boys basketball team celebrated its first victory of the season when it cruised to a 51-36 victory Wednesday over the Linfield Christian Lions.

The win came in the second round of play in the Citrus Hill “Big Daddy” Tournament, in which Nighthawk Coach Steve Tarabilda’s team lost their opening game to Perris Citrus Hill.

“It should be a good year," Tarabilda said, after the victory.

It was an all-junior starting team for the Nighthawks. Tyler Bilton led MVHS in scoring with 21 points. Center Mitchell Lenhart added 11 while Kevin Padlo scored 10. Rounding out Murrieta’s scoring were Jordan Williams with five points and Reid Bohanan with four.

On Friday, the Nighthawks will face Riverside's Ramona High School.

In other “Big Daddy” Tournament action, Murrieta Mesa beat Riverside Poly 60-54 and will be playing in the semi-final against Perris High School on Friday. Camry Smith led all scoring with 18 points.

The Vista Murrieta Broncos ran into a wall of defense Wednesday, falling 62-41 to the Panthers from Corona High School. The Broncos kept it close until the fourth quarter.

Coach Andy Rucker’s Broncos will next face the Hawks from tournament host Citrus Hill High School Friday.
