Serious Patient Neglect Allegations Lodged At Riverside County Care Facility For Elderly People

A search warrant was served at Yorkshire Village in unincorporated Hemet, and several patients were transferred to local hospitals.

HEMET, CA — A multi-agency investigation was continuing Tuesday into allegations of patient neglect at a large assisted living and memory care facility in unincorporated Hemet, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday afternoon.

State records show that Yorkshire Village at 26933 Cornell Street has been the subject of dozens of complaints investigated by authorities, resulting in substantiated allegations and citations issued over the course of several years.

The facility owned by Hemet-based Dorten Enterprises is licensed to house up to 100 elderly adults, according to state records.

The situation at Yorkshire Village rose to a higher level in 2025 when the sheriff's department was contacted by an Ombudsman representative with the California Department of Aging who requested assistance about ongoing complaints of alleged patient neglect at the facility.

During an investigation into the allegations, "additional victims of elder abuse and neglect were discovered" at the facility, according to the sheriff's department.

As the investigation progressed, more problems were allegedly uncovered, including complaints against Yorkshire Village staffers.

State records going back as far as 2021 show substantiated complaints about Yorkshire Village, including not meeting a patient's incontinence needs, not ensuring a patient receives scheduled showers, staff mismanaging residents’ medications, and other findings.

A voicemail message left for Yorkshire Village Executive Director Teresa Mapilis was not immediately returned.

According to Yorkshire Village's website, its residents "aren’t just patients, customers, or names on a chart. They are part of the Yorkshire Village extended family. When we say family matters, that means we go above and beyond high-tech solutions and corporate playbooks. We try and succeed in providing happiness."

Basic board at Yorkshire starts at $3,200 a month for assisted living and $3,700 per month for memory care, with added costs for medication management, personal hygiene, laundry service and other services, according to the facility's website.

The size and scope of the sheriff's department investigation kept expanding, requiring assistance from the Department of Justice's Division of Medical Fraud and Elder Abuse, and other county agencies.

The investigation culminated in a June 10 search warrant service at Yorkshire Village that was headed by the sheriff's department and the Department of Justice. Staff from Riverside University Health Services, the California Department of Aging, Adult Protective Services, and personnel assigned to the Community Care Licensing Department were called in to assist.

"During the service of the search warrant, several residents were identified as needing further medical care and were transported to local hospitals for treatment," according to the sheriff's department.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about Yorkshire Village is encouraged to call Investigator Daugherty at 951-791-3425 or Investigator Navarrete at 951-791-2812.
