Police: Murrieta Man Exposed Self, Was 'Performing Sex Act' While Harassing Teen

Police say it was an off-duty law enforcement officer who helped them nab the suspected sexual predator.

MURRIETA, CA- A Murrieta man is behind bars Thursday, suspected of masturbating in front of a young girl while driving alongside her, according to police.

According to Murrieta Police Lt. Ron Driscoll, the incident happened on Monday afternoon, in the area of Washington Avenue and Davenport Way.

A 17-year-old Murrieta Valley High School student told police that, as she was walking home from school, a man in a Ford Focus pulled up next to her and tried talking to her-- while doing something else.

"The female noticed that the male had exposed himself to her and was performing a sex act while he was seated in the car," Driscoll said in a news release.

The man drove off and the girl called police, but they couldn't immediately find him.

Then, on Tuesday, police got a call from an off-duty law enforcement officer who apparently caught the man after he "... saw a suspicious male, seated in a vehicle and attempting to talk with teenaged girls as they walked by," Driscoll said.

That officer detained the man-- identified as 55-year-old David Charles Fruge-- until police arrived.

"As Murrieta officers were conversing with the subject, the subject became uncooperative and a brief struggle ensued," Driscoll said. "The subject was taken into custody without further incident and was found to be intoxicated."

After the 17-year-old identified Fruge as the same man who had contacted her a day earlier, police booked him on charges of indecent exposure, child annoyance, DUI and resisting arrest, according to Driscoll. He was taken to the Murrieta jail and booked on $50,000 bail, online records indicate.
