Report Illegal Fireworks In Murrieta: Set 'Em Off, Pay $50K

If you see illegal fireworks being used across Murrieta, please report them. "You light it, we write it."

The City of Murrieta had its annual birthday celebration last weekend, and now if you want to see fireworks, they suggest you go to one of the professional Southwest Riverside County shows on the 4th of July. Don't try this at home, or risk fines.

MURRIETA, CA — The city of Murrieta and the Murrieta Fire & Rescue, and Murrieta Police are joining forces for the new "You Light It, We Write It" campaign. Illegal fireworks set off in Murrieta may result in $50,000 in fines. All fireworks will be confiscated, and those found lighting them off will be fined.

"We ask our community members to prioritize safety," a city spokesperson said. "Let's be mindful of the severe risk of wildfires."

Additional police and fire patrols will be out throughout the weekend, watching fireworks-related incidents, and the community's support is needed, they say.

If you witness fireworks being used, please report them by filling out an online form with the cross streets where fireworks were seen, any additional information on who is setting them off, the type of fireworks witnessed, and the length of time fireworks have been shot off.

Once submitted, that form will be sent to patrol units, and all residents can remain anonymous or be contacted by an officer.

"Let's celebrate responsibly and keep our community safe!"
