RivCo Child Struck By Box Truck While Riding Scooter: Cops

A Menifee boy riding an E-scooter through an intersection was struck and injured late Thursday.

MENIFEE, CA — A child riding an e-scooter through a Menifee intersection was struck by a box truck Thursday afternoon, authorities said. The police said the boy was in a crosswalk when the collision occurred.

Shortly after 3 p.m. a box truck drove through the intersection at Craig Avenue and Evans Road, according to the Menifee Police Department spokesman Chase Coburn said.

The youth, whose identity was not disclosed, was riding the e-scooter northbound on Evans and entered the crosswalk to traverse Craig when he was "struck by (the truck) traveling westbound on Craig."

Officials were called to the scene and the driver immediately stopped and waited for police officers.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics found the teen with unspecified non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment and was recovering on Friday. His exact age was not provided.

No citations were given in the incident, which is still under investigation. The driver was questioned by patrol officers and determined not to be impaired, Coburn said.
