For RTA Customers, Their Phone is Their Bus Pass

New app allows customers to buy and use passes from phones

Your phone is now your bus pass.

Following a successful pilot period this summer, RTA has launched a new program that allows customers to buy and use bus passes with their phones.

Buying a pass is easy. Customers simply download the Token Transit app and follow the prompts to buy as many bus passes as they want. When boarding the bus, customers simply open the app, find their pass, place the phone over the farebox validator and wait for the beep.

RTA is sweetening the deal by offering a 30 percent discount on customers’ first pass purchase through the month of October.

The new technology won’t replace paper passes but will serve as an additional option for people who like its convenience.

With Token Transit, there’s no need to search for loose change or fumble through a wallet looking for a bus pass. There’s no need to worry about damaged or lost passes either. That’s because with Token Transit, your phone is your pass. Plus, customers can see how much time they have left on their pass, check out payment history and get customer service right from their phone.
