Temecula, Murrieta Schools Dominate CIF Wrestling

Several wrestlers representing Temecula and Murrieta high schools successfully reached the medals podium at the 2011 CIF Coastal Division Wrestling Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Pacifica High School.

With the exception three weight classes -- the 125-pound, 160-pound and 215-pound categories -- Southwestern League wrestlers reached the podium at every weight class.

First place honors in the 189-pound weight class went to Vista Murrieta senior Reuben Franklin.

Murrieta Valley senior Joey Riano, wrestling at 140 pounds, received his medal by finishing in 2nd place.

Murrieta Valley senior Scott Mosley brought home a third-place medal in the 119-pound class.

Vista Murrieta junior Nick Jazo earned a 4th-place medal at 152 pounds.

130 lbs - 2nd place, Danin Calvin (junior), Chaparral; 4th place, Joe Micou (junior), Temecula Valley

135 lbs - 2nd place, Blake Ruff (senior), Temecula Valley; 5th place, Yopoldo Rodriguez (junior), Chaparral

140 lbs - 2nd place, Joey Riano (senior), Murrieta Valley; 4th place, Carter Armendariz (freshman), Temecula Valley

145 lbs - 5th place, Zach Mitchell (senior), Temecula Valley

152 lbs - 3rd place, Tyler Bradley (senior), Temecula Valley; 4th place, Nick Jazo (junior), Vista Murrieta

171 lbs - 2nd place, Brett Sayre (junior), Temecula Valley; 3rd place, Jon Wixom (soph.), Chaparral

189 lbs - 1st place, Reuben Franklin (senior), Vista Murrieta; 3rd place, Ryan Rees (senior), Great Oak; 4th place, Francisco Bernal (senior), Temecula Valley

275 lbs - 2nd place, Zack Smith (senior), Temecula Valley; 3rd place, Rock Davis (senior), Great Oak

Local teams placing and number of qualifiers for Masters:

1) Temecula Valley 224.0 points, 10 wrestlers qualifying; 4) Chaparral 120.0, 5 qualifying; 13) Murrieta Valley 71.5, 2 qualifying; 15) Great Oak 62.0, 2 qualifying; 17) Vista Murrieta, 59.0, 2 qualifying

Each of these wrestlers has earned the right to move on to the CIF Masters Meet February 25-26 at Temecula Valley High School.
