These Are Murrieta’s Latest Outstanding Students
Murrieta Chamber of Commerce announces the Students of the Month for October 2017.
MURRIETA, CA - From the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce: On October 19, 2017, the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce High School Student of the Month Program was held and the students shown in the attached photo were recognized. Shown sitting left to right are: Fernando Cortes, Calvary Christian High School; Jacquelyn Olson, Murrieta Valley High School; Lauren Callella, Vista Murrieta High School; Ashley Guerrero, Murrieta Mesa High School; Velma Sanchez, Murrieta Canyon Academy; Julian Eshkol, Springs Charter School. Murrieta Mesa High School Senior Ashley Guerrero is a very good student, maintaining a 3.75 GPA while taking several AP classes. Ashley is a company commander in the NJROTC program. She is also in student leadership, the Link Crew club and Cal HOSA. Ashley is a member of National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation and she volunteered for Paws for Law and the district’s Special Olympics event. Ashley is also on the varsity La Crosse team. Ashley plans to be an EMT or Paramedic and attend the University of California, Irvine or Cal State University, San Marcos, to study nursing.
Murrieta Canyon Academy Senior Velma Sanchez started attending MCA during her sophomore year. When she came to the school, Velma was a semester behind. She said Murrieta Canyon enabled her to work at her own pace and she has worked hard to be on track to graduate a semester early. Velma will be the first of her four siblings to graduate from high school. Velma loves animals and she volunteers at Animal Friends of the Valley. She wants to attend Platt College and become a veterinarian. Velma’s happiness is contagious and with her positive outlook, hard work and dedication to improve herself, she has the potential to do whatever she sets her mind to.
Murrieta Valley High School Senior Jacquelyn (Jackie) Olson is an excellent student who maintains a 3.95 GPA while taking rigorous courses. Jackie is in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program and she was in the color guard for three years. Jackie is involved in ASB and is the ASB City Council representative. Jackie has been in the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club, for four years, the last two years as co-president. Jackie is passionate about SADD and she has spent her summers attending National SADD conferences in Pennsylvania and Florida. Selected as one of the top students in the nation, Jackie attended SADD Speaks in Washington D.C where she spoke to lawmakers. Jackie plans to attend a four-year university, go to medical school and become a surgeon.
Calvary Christian High School Senior Fernando Cortes is a scholar-athlete who leads by example. He is the captain of the football team and he has been on the track and field team. He also played soccer and volleyball. Fernando is the leader of the Fellowship of Christian athletes at his school. Fernando is considering going to Cal State University Long Beach or San Marcos or California Baptist University. He plans to study Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Fernando is known for his character, diligence, trustworthiness and kindness. He is resolute and he has learned to overcome challenges.
Springs Charter School Senior Julian Eshkol has made a positive impact on his school. As president of the school’s ASB, he has worked hard to provide memorable experiences for the students. He has also participated in the Springs Charter chapter of the National Honor Society and has tutored his classmates. Julian is inquisitive, tenacious, disciplined and driven. He has dedicated himself to learning multiple languages and plans to study applied mathematics, romance literature and go into STEM research. He loves discovering new things and sharing his knowledge and his goal is to continue doing so for the rest of his life.
Vista Murrieta High School Senior Lauren Callella is an outstanding scholar who maintains a 4.23 GPA while taking a multitude of AP and Dual Enrollment courses. She is ASB President this year and is a member of National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, Link Crew, Interact Club and the Sole Hope Club, which repurposes denim jeans and sends them to an organization in Uganda where they are combined with discarded tire treads to make shoes. Lauren earned the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her 200 plus hours of community service. Lauren has also been involved in the California Association of Student Leaders, this year serving as their Southern Director. Lauren plans to go to a four-year university, get a degree in Business Administration, then get a Master’s in psychology, and eventually have her own practice.
