Too Good to Last? 41-Day Streak of Dropping Gas Prices Near Murrieta Ends

The end of the dropping gasoline prices comes as the price of crude oil reached its highest level so far this year, AAA officials said.

A 41-day streak of decreases in the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline came to an end in the Inland Empire Friday with a 1.8-cent rise that bumped the price to $3.127.

The average price in Riverside and San Bernardino counties dropped 37.6 cents during the streak, including four-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The streak of dropping prices was the longest since a 57-day run from Oct. 4-Nov. 29.

The end of the dropping gasoline prices comes as the price of crude oil reached its highest level so far this year, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

“While crude oil is still at very low levels compared to most periods since 2009, a continued oil price increase could definitely push up local gas prices,” Spring said.

Despite Friday’s increase, the average price is 2 cents less than one week ago, 26.5 cents lower than one month ago and $1.131 below what it was one year ago.
