Undefeated Murrieta Mesa Finally at Home

Rams look to go 4-0 at the expense of Citrus Valley High School.

Coach Justin Schaeffer and his offensive juggernaut will be playing their first home game of the season Friday.

The Rams have gotten off to a 3-0 start and put on an offensive display that has catapulted Mesa into the top 20 rankings in the Southwestern League; all on the road. What an appropriate Homecoming Game.

Chase Chambers, voted the top quarterback in the league by the Press- Enterprise, has passed for 1,210 yards and 14 TDs in the first three games. Last week against Tahquitz High School Chambers completed 31 of 40 passes for 451 yards and 5 TDs.

The Rams defeated the Titans last Friday 60-47. Wide Receiver Dennis Castro had three touchdown receptions while Running Back Khalil Sharpe added another. The Ram running backs also gained 171 yards on the ground.

Last year Murrieta Mesa had no problem with Citrus Valley, defeating them easily 37-14.  The Blackhawks are looking to avenge last year’s loss.

The Blackhawks are 1-2 but are coming off their first win of the season. Coach Pete Smolin’s team manhandled the Trojans 35-7 and gave Yucca Valley its first loss of the year last Friday.

The Blackhawks are averaging 137.7 yards passing and 151 yards rushing per game this season. Their offense finally got on track last week against Yucca Valley, so look for those numbers to improve against the Rams.

Offensive players to watch on the Citrus Valley team are QB Dalton Douglas and running backs Taylor Smith and Sir Vanti Campbell. Douglas likes to throw to his favorite receivers Connor McCoy, Luke Taylor and Christian Johnson.

Game time Friday night is at 7 p.m. Look for Chase Chambers and company to put on yet another offensive show.

Come out and support the Rams as they play their first game at home this season. It's Homecoming. Good luck Rams!

Vista Murrieta will be in Redlands Friday taking on Mighty Redlands East Valley High School while Murrieta Valley travels North to Juneau Alaska to take on the Crimson Bears this weekend.
