VIDEO: Tour de Murrieta Kicks Into Gear

More than 500 bicyclists converged on Historic Downtown Murrieta today for the start of the seventh annual

Here's a video interview following the I.E. Bikes Time Trial. The 4.1-mile race started at 10 a.m today at Hayes Avenue and Kalmia Street. The course led cyclists up De Luz Road to Rancho California Road, according to Ernie Sanchez, technical director and founder of Tour de Murrieta.

Racers compete for individual and team points during the three-day event, Sanchez said.

Saturday's race is the Jax Bicycle Center Grand Prix, a series of 1-mile speed laps around the downtown area.

But it is not all about the pros. There is a kid's race that kicks off at noon at the , 41717 Juniper Street. Children are free to bring their bikes and helmets and hit the road. Organizers advise arriving one hour early for registration.
