Water Conservation

Water Districts give volume discounts to customers who waste water.  This is subsidized by water customers who use water wisely.

Property tax assessments, monthly service charges and sewer bills are not pro-rated based on water usage.

Property tax assessments range from $0 to $500 depending on the Water District.  They are labeled as being Ad Valorem and Standby on your property tax bill.

Monthly service charges range from $10 to $33 depending on the Water District.  Debt servicing is a major contributor to the variation in charges.

Sewer bills range from $19 to $45 depending on the Water District.

Property taxes, service charges and sewers are forms of regressive taxation.  These should all be eliminated.

The cost of water would then need to be increased to reflect the true costs.  Water wasters should not be subsidized.
