From the City of Murrieta: Laurie Webster of WebSec Corporation, a small business located in Murrieta, California, is the recipient of the SBA Women Owned Small Business of the Year award for the Orange County and Inland Empire region. WebSec is an engineering and technology applications company that specializes in software architecture and development and provides engineering, systems integration, technical services, and customized hardware and software solutions to military and business clients in the defense industry.
Laurie Webster, President of WebSec, co-founded the company with her husband David Webster in 2006. Laurie previously worked as a web developer for California State University San Bernardino's GEAR UP program, a federal grant initiative geared towards middle school students and their families. Laurie started her career as a technical writer and computer-based training (CBT) specialist working for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) on communications security (COMSEC) devices.
As a small business owner, Laurie's duties include contract negotiations, human resources, project management and marketing, although she prefers to spend her time with documentation or running tests on equipment. Throughout her career, Laurie has faced challenges with being a female in a male dominated field, but she strives to move past these challenges by doing her job well and sticking to her motto, "Nevertheless, she persisted."
