Wife of Murrieta Councilman Succumbs to Cancer

Kathy Gibbs, wife of Murrieta City Councilman and Immediate Past Mayor Rick Gibbs, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer.

"...After 124 days in a hospital setting, Kathy Gibbs returned home for 3 days before she succumbed to pancreatic cancer," according to a news release issued by Nancy Driggers, assistant to City Manager Rick Dudley.

"Kathy died peacefully in her sleep with her son, one of five grandsons and her husband by her side," Driggers wrote.

A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Evans Brown Mortuary, 27010 Encanto Dr. in Sun City. 

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 37200 Whitewood Road in Murrieta.

The Gibbs' family requests donations in lieu of flowers to The Lustgarten Foundation, a pancreatic cancer research center. The Foundation website with links to information and donating is www.Lustgarten.org. 

"It was a very long time since last July 22 when all this started," Councilman Gibbs said Thursday. "But Kathy is at peace and pain free now."
