1 Dead In Browns Valley Road Crash, Napa Police Say

Browns Valley Road was closed between Thompson Avenue and Robinson Lane as Napa police investigated the fatal crash.

NAPA, CA — A Napa woman died in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning in Napa, authorities said. Napa police officers were dispatched at 8:39 a.m. to the 3100 block of Browns Valley Road where a car had gone off the roadway and struck a tree, Napa police Traffic Sgt. Kristofer Jenny said.

Emergency personnel with the Napa Fire Department and AMR ambulance responded and tried saving the driver's life. The patient was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital but later died, the sergeant said.

The woman was identified as Jolyn Dietz Eichner, a 70-year-old Napa resident, according to Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office Spokesman Henry Wofford.

Wofford confirmed Eichner was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital where she was pronounced deceased Monday morning. Autopsy results are pending but information gleaned by sheriff's officials indicated Eichner's car may have been swerving before it went off the roadway, Wofford said.

Browns Valley Road was closed between Thompson Avenue and Robinson Lane for four hours Monday as the Napa Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.

"The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling westbound on Browns Valley Road at the speed limit, when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree," Jenny said. "At this time, it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision."
