Napa 15-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Friend, Police Say In Update

Detectives found a 9mm "ghost gun" near the residence and believe the incident was gang-related.

NAPA, CA — Police now say that a shooting Wednesday in Napa was accidental but is still believed to be gang-related.

Officers responded at 11:51 a.m. Wednesday to a residence in the 2900 block of Kilburn Avenue — near Laurel and 1st streets — where a resident said they were shot, Lt. Chase Haag said.

The victim suffered a single gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.

Detectives found a 9mm "ghost gun"— meaning it had no serial number — near the residence.

"A 15-year-old male was later located and believed to be the shooter," Haag said. "Due to juvenile protection laws, the juvenile suspect was unable to be interviewed about the shooting and was released to a parent."

In an update Thursday, Haag said the 15-year-old shot another juvenile by accident while handling a gun.

"The two juveniles know each other and this may have contributed to the lack of information provided by the involved parties. Based on this updated information it appears the shooting was not intentional."

Detectives do not believe any other suspect or victims were involved but they do believe the incident was gang-related, the lieutenant said.
