NAPA COUNTY, CA — A Yountville man and a Lower Lake man died early Tuesday in a head-on collision north of St. Helena, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fatal crash occurred at 2:10 a.m. on state Highway 29 north of Bale Lane, when the driver of a red 2014 Chevrolet Sonic crossed over the double-yellow line and collided head-on with a white 2010 Toyota Prius, CHP Officer Marc Renspurger said.
Prior to the collision, the Chevrolet was traveling southbound at an unknown speed and the Toyota was traveling northbound, also at an unknown speed, Renspurger said.
"For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet traversed the painted solid double yellow lines that separate the northbound and southbound lanes, traveled [the] wrong way into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the Toyota," Renspurger said.
