Accomplished US Marine Veteran To Speak In American Canyon

Officer Ann Marie Carrizales is the keynote speaker for the city's upcoming Veteran's Day ceremony.

City of American Canyon: The City of American Canyon is honored to welcome Officer Ann Marie Carrizales to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11th at 11 AM, at the Community Center Gym (100 Benton Way) in American Canyon. The ceremony honors the brave men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces and features a Presentation of Colors, City Council Proclamation, several guest speakers, live music, and refreshments. Officer Ann Marie Carrizales was invited to speak by American Canyon City Council Member David Oro.

Officer Marie Carrizales was born in San Clemente, CA. Upon graduation, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with a Military Occupational Specialty in the Military Police Field. Between 1997 and 1999, Officer Carrizales became the first woman to represent the United States Marine Corps in the sport of amateur boxing. She became the U.S. National Champion in her weight division, ranking #1 in the country. Officer Carrizales continued to make history. She was selected to compete on the first U.S. International Women's Boxing Team. While representing the U.S. in Finland, she earned one of two silver medals in addition to a #2 World ranking.

In 2010, Officer Carrizales began her civilian law enforcement career in Texas with the Stafford Police Department. Officer Carrizales was voted Officer of the Year by her peers for two consecutive years, an unprecedented and honorable achievement within the law enforcement community. On October 26, 2013, Officer Carrizales initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by three members of a violent gang with ties to the Mexican Mafia (MS-13). While speaking with the driver, the front seat passenger opened fire, shooting her in the face and chest before fleeing. Despite the major injuries, Officer Carrizales returned fire and initiated a vehicle pursuit. With the help of various police agencies and the Houston Crime Stoppers, all three subjects were detained. In 2015, Officer Carrizales ended her employment with the Stafford Police Department.

Officer Carrizales is currently employed by the Meadows Police Department. She is an instructor for Calibre Press' Street Survival Seminar Series. Officer Carrizales also travels internationally, sharing her journey of physical and emotional survival. Her goal is to bring awareness to "The Fight after the Fight." Officer Carrizales resides in Houston with her husband, and two children who continue to be the source of her NEVER QUIT mindset.
