American Canyon Has A New Public Works Director/City Engineer

From The City of American Canyon: Jason Holley, American Canyon City Manager, is pleased to announce Rick Kaufman will join the City’s executive team as the Public Works Director/City Engineer, effective January 21, 2020. The City selected Mr. Kaufman as a result of a comprehensive nationwide recruitment led by Peckham and McKinney™ which yielded more than two dozen well-qualified applicants.

The Public Works Director/City Engineer is responsible for all Capital Projects, Private Development Engineering, Transportation, and Inspection activities for the City. The Public Works Department has an operating budget of $14.1 million and a staff of 48 full-time employees. The City has a Fiscal Year 2019/20 Capital Budget of $31.1 million and anticipates an investment of more than $100 million in private capital will occur over the next decade in conjunction with new development.

Rick has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California. Mr. Kaufman brings three decades of executive management experience in both the public and private sectors, including serving as a Senior Transportation Engineer with Caltrans.

Mr. Kaufman was instrumental in the successful growth of Vali Cooper & Associates, Inc. (now TRC Companies, Inc.), a highly reputable professional services firm specializing in construction management services to hundreds of California and Colorado clients, including public agencies at the federal and state level and numerous towns, cities, counties, water/flood control districts, private entities and utilities.

Rick’s extensive project and construction management experience comprises a diverse range of projects including two fire stations in the City of Fairfield, the Woodland Community/Senior Center and Sports Park, the Seismic Retrofit of the Carquinez Bridge, and the installation of a complete Traffic Operations System over 24 locations on Highways 680 and 24, and dozens of signalization projects on both local roads and the State Highway System.
