American Fire Chars 526 Acres In Napa County

One outbuilding and several wooden fences were destroyed in the wildfire.

AMERICAN CANYON, CA — A vegetation fire that broke out Sunday afternoon east of the city of American Canyon and west of Interstate Highway 80 in unincorporated Napa County was 100-percent contained at 526 acres Monday evening, fire officials said.

The blaze was first reported at 3:19 p.m. Sunday and destroyed one outbuilding as well as several wooden fences behind a residential neighborhood in southeast American Canyon.

American Canyon Road was closed between Via Firenze and the Highway 80 interchange as more than 170 firefighters responded to the wildfire.

Evacuation advisories were issued Sunday afternoon for Newell Drive, Sagebush Lane, north of Donaldson Way, Sorrento Lane, Farentino Place and Selvino Court.

Air support and ground resources "aggressively" worked to contain the fire, and by 7 p.m. Sunday, all evacuation advisories and road closures related to the fire were lifted, according to Bruce Lang, spokesperson for the Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit

"Cal Fire and multiple agencies made significant progress overnight, fire personnel will continue to construct and strengthen containment line and extinguish hot spots throughout the day," Lang said Monday morning.

Firefighters from Cal Fire, American Canyon Fire Protection District, Napa City Fire, Napa County Fire and numerous Solano County fire departments, including from the city of Vallejo, all responded to the blaze, with 163 personnel still assigned to the incident Monday morning.

No injuries were reported in the wildland blaze.

Investigators were still looking into potential causes of the fire Monday.
