It's That Time Again: Back To School In Napa Valley

NAPA VALLEY, CA — Napa Valley Unified School District students return to classrooms Wednesday, launching the 2026-27 school year after teachers and staff spent the summer preparing for their arrival.

The opening comes with a quick adjustment for families: Students have early-release days Thursday and Friday, Aug. 13-14.

Parents also have their first opportunity after the start of classes to follow districtwide business when the Napa Valley Unified School District Board of Education meets Thursday, Aug. 20.

The board typically calls its meeting to order at 5 p.m., with open session generally beginning at 7 p.m. in the district board room, 2425 Jefferson St. in Napa.

The board held an earlier meeting Aug. 6, before students returned to school. Additional meetings are scheduled Sept. 10 and Sept. 24.

For parents still working through school-supply lists, several major retailers have launched back-to-school promotions.

Target's current back-to-school sale includes select 35-cent spiral notebooks, 39-cent composition books, 50-cent folders and school glue, 99-cent Crayola products, and 99-cent pens. Many of those offers are listed through Sept. 19.

Napa has Target stores at Bel Aire Plaza and on Soscol Avenue.

Walmart is also promoting back-to-school supplies, clothing, backpacks, and other school essentials. Its Napa Supercenter is at 681 Lincoln Ave.

Staples, at 3325 Jefferson St., is another option for families filling classroom supply lists. The retailer allows shoppers to search for school and classroom supply lists by ZIP code and is advertising current deals on school supplies.

Prices, availability, and participation can vary by store, so families should check current offers before making a special trip.
