NAPA VALLEY, CA — What if sharing a bowl of soup could help someone find a safe place to call home?
Some of Napa's most creative chefs will test the theory that a simple meal can create meaningful opportunities while they prepare soup for Empty Bowls, a fundraiser Sunday supporting Abode Services and the South Napa Homeless Shelter.
The gathering will bring neighbors, supporters, and advocates together to raise critical funds for people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.
Organizers also provide hot lunches to the South Napa Homeless Shelter every Thursday and Friday.
Guests will share a meal prepared by pioneering chef Ken Frank, founder of La Toque, and fellow local chefs. The menu includes five soups, salmon, focaccia, and dessert.
The soup is served in a hand crafted ceramic bowl of their choosing to take home.
Each bowl reminds guests of people facing uncertainty about their next meal and where they will sleep.
The numbers of people who can say that is increasing in a city and county with an urgent and growing need for diverse and affordable housing.
Proceeds will support Abode's programs and services that provide housing, resources, and pathways to stability.
La Toque previously hosted the 50th anniversary of the Paris Tasting, attended by Napa industry figures like Jean-Charles Boisset, the Napa-based French vintner who leads the family firm behind Boisset Collection.
Empty Bowls begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at The Westin Verasa Napa, 1314 McKinstry St. in Napa.
