1. Women Rescue St. Helena Thrift Stores For Good Cause (patch.com) — Shoppers in Napa Valley's St. Helena now have two revived thrift stores whose proceeds support Parkinson's programs and neighbors struggling with high living costs. Local residents Jennifer Wilken and Oria Goleno took over La Bohème and Act Two, transforming donated goods into affordable essentials and charitable funding while preserving a beloved community hub. Their new foundation also aids local students, caregivers, and efforts to restart a Parkinson's support group.
2. 'Collecting Napa County: Building a Shared History' exhibit opens Oct. 16 (napavalleyregister.com) — A new free exhibit at Napa's historic Goodman Library will showcase how local organizations collect and preserve Napa County's stories, from photos and letters to personal memories. Opening Oct. 16 and running through April 10, it invites Napa residents to reflect on whose histories are saved and how the community shapes its shared past.
3. Authors sought for Napa Valley Book Festival (napavalleyregister.com) — Local writers and readers in Napa can look forward to the Napa Valley Book Festival on Nov. 14 at Blue Oak School, where admission is free. Published authors can reserve tables, hear from "Sideways" author Rex Pickett and outdoors writer Tom Stienstra, and enjoy author talks, children's story hour, bookstores, food trucks, and more.
4. Alleged assault at senior apartments in Napa leads to standoff with police (pressdemocrat.com) — Napa police say a visitor allegedly assaulted a resident at Rohlffs Manor Senior Apartments on Thursday, then barricaded themself inside, prompting a SWAT and crisis-negotiator response. Nearby Park West and Pueblo Vista schools were notified but not locked down, while a stretch of West Pueblo Avenue was closed and residents were urged to avoid the area as officers sought a peaceful resolution.
