NORTH BAY, CA — Major Highway 37 work preparing for storms begins today with a partial shutdown followed by shutdowns and multiple detours.
Caltrans will close westbound Highway 37 from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. today and Thursday.
Both directions of Highway 37 will be completely closed between Mare Island and Sears Point beginning at 10 p.m. Friday while crews prepare the corridor for El Niño storms.
The full closing will end at 5 a.m. Monday.
Crews will demolish the median and install concrete barriers to shift eastbound and westbound traffic onto the westbound lanes.
Once crews complete the shift, they will raise portions of the eastbound roadway by 3 feet to improve the road's resilience and address flooding concerns.
Caltrans has set up electronic signs throughout the region to alert drivers and encourage them to plan ahead.
Drivers traveling east on Highway 37 must turn left onto northbound Highway 121 in Sonoma, turn right onto Highway 12/Carneros Highway, and continue to Highway 12/29.
Drivers must turn right there, then take the connector loop off-ramp on the left to return to eastbound Highway 37.
Drivers traveling west on Highway 37 must exit right onto northbound Highway 29 in Napa, follow Highway 29 to westbound Highway 12, and continue to southbound Highway 121.
All work depends on the weather, and Caltrans may schedule additional weeknight work.
