Bay Area Bake-Off: Napa Dealt Another Day Of Record-Setting Heat
Napa was among six greater Bay Area cities on Tuesday that saw their highest temperatures ever recorded, the National Weather Service said.
NAPA, CA — Napa was among six cities in the greater Bay Area on Tuesday that saw their highest temperatures ever recorded, according to the National Weather Service.
Napa reached a high temperature Tuesday of 114 degrees, breaking the previous record of 113 set in 1961. It was the second day in a row Napa saw record-setting heat.
Another North Bay city, Santa Rosa, reached a scorching 115 Tuesday, shattering the previous record of 113 set in 1913.

The same six Bay Area cities were among seven that had record highs for September and among eight that set records for Sept. 6. In all, 21 record temperatures were set or tied Tuesday.
Livermore's high of 116 degrees tied the all-time record high set only Monday, surpassing the previous mark of 115 set in 1950. King City's high was also 116 Tuesday and broke by one degree the record set in 2017.

Other all-time highs were recorded in Redwood City, where it was 110 degrees Tuesday, tying the previous record of 110 in 1972; and in San Jose, where it was 109 degrees Tuesday, breaking the record of 108 set in 2017.
The same six cities — Napa, Santa Rosa, Livermore, Redwood City, King City and San Jose — set records for the month and date.
In addition, Gilroy's high of 113 surpassed the previous record high in September of 112 set Monday, as well as setting a new mark for Sept. 6, surpassing the mark of 112 set in 2020.
Tuesday's high of 81 in Half Moon Bay surpassed the record high for Sept. 6 of 80 set in 2004.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday's heat was anticipated to be the peak of the heat wave with some slight cooling expected on Wednesday. However, the interior will remain hot through late week, forecasters said.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect for Napa through 8 p.m. Thursday.
Wednesday it was forecast to reach a high of 98 degrees in Napa, according to AccuWeather, followed by highs of 107 Thursday, 99 on Friday and 82 on Saturday.
