City of Napa Provides Post-Earthquake Status Report

Building inspectors this week continued their second round of evaluations of structures that were damaged in the magnitude-6.0 South Napa earthquake on Aug. 24.

Napa officials said there are 129 red-tagged buildings and more than 1,000 structures remain on the yellow tag list.

Officials also announced that 20 red-tagged structures were moved to the yellow or green tag list.

Damaged structures have closed Franklin Street from First to Clay streets, Second Street from Combs to Main streets and Brown Street from Second to Third streets. One lane of First Street is closed from Main Street to School Street.

The Community Services Building at 1600 First St. reopened today to issue permits for needed repairs. Inspection and permit fees are being waived for those who have suffered damage from the earthquake.

The Senior Center is red-tagged and remains closed.

Since the earthquake, 130 waterline breaks have been repaired, but the Water Division is responding to new reports of breaks. There is no backlog or repairs resulting in loss of water service to customers, city officials said.

Tap water remains safe for bathing and household uses, but those who lost water service completely for any period of time are advised to use bottled water or tap water that has been boiled for one full minute before using it for drinking or cooking. City officials said they expect to rescind this advisory soon.

Napa Valley College has made showers available in its gym locker rooms in the 600 Building.

The gym is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Stonebridge School resumed classes Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The American Red Cross overnight shelter at the Crosswalk Community Church, 2590 First St. offers people a place to stay, food and clothing, cleaning supplies, emotional support and other services.

The Red Cross Assistance Shelter at the Marriott Hotel at 3425 Solano Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for one-on-one sessions with a caseworker about how to recover from the quake damage. More information is available by calling (877) 978-2725.
