Clean-Up Set For Asphalt Spill On Petrified Forest Road

Motorists advised to drive carefully on the stretch near the border of Napa and Sonoma counties, officials said.

NAPA VALLEY, CA – One-lane traffic control is in effect on Petrified Forest Road at the Napa-Sonoma county line where a truck spilled a load of hot asphalt late Monday, according to the Napa County Department of Public Works.

The driver of the truck responsible for the spill apparently took off or might not have been aware of the spill, Public Works Superintendent Steve Stangland said.

Crews could not remove the asphalt with shovels Monday night because it was "glued to the ground," Stangland said.

He estimated about 5 tons of asphalt spilled on the rural road that remained open overnight.

"It wasn't a hazard. It looked like a bad asphalt patch," Stangland said.
