"Puzzle Challenge" Benefits Napa Library Literacy Programs
Challenge your brain, have fun and help boost literacy at the Napa City-County Library Saturday with crossword champ Dan Feyer and an all-day festival of puzzling.
From crosswords to Sudoku to KenKen, millions of people around the world solve puzzles every day. Now you and your family can test your skills and learn from professional puzzle creators and champion crossword solvers.
The Napa Valley Puzzle Challenge takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the main branch on Coombs Street in downtown Napa.
Dan Feyer, a three-time American Crossword Puzzle Tournament Champion and Bay Area native who describes himself as "a mild-mannered musician who developed an addition to crosswords," is on hand as moderator and puzzle judge.

Three unpublished New York Times puzzles from "Puzzle Master" Will Shortz will be part of the puzzle championships.

From 10 a.m. to noon, kids and family-friendly puzzles are featured; admission is $5.
A 1 p.m. screening of the documentary film Wordplay is free.
At 3 p.m., registration begins for the crossword puzzle tournament at $20 a person, including a panel featuring expert puzzlers from the Bay Area and a puzzle championship round.
Tournament prizes include Wine Train tickets, Uptown tickets, soy candles, puzzle books, and wine.
Raffle prizes include a kids' and an adult bicycle, a personal yoga hour and more.
Proceeds support literacy programs at the Library.
