Full-Scale Law Enforcement Drill Friday In Napa County

ADVISORY: Police, fire and other first responders are participating in active shooter drills in American Canyon and Calistoga.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — The Napa County Office of Emergency Services is conducting a double active-shooter drill Friday in the cities of American Canyon and Calistoga. The full-scale drill is expected to last seven hours — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Jan. 4, at American Canyon Community Service Center and Calistoga Junior/Senior High School.

"During the exercise, those in the immediate area may notice multiple law enforcement and fire vehicles, first responders, caution tape strung around the sites, and loud noises/voices," said Napa County Sheriff's Spokesman Henry Wofford.

School is out of session and the locations will be closed to the public, Wofford said.

Businesses and residents within a half-mile of the two sites were notified of the upcoming drill, as the county began sending notices to affected residents the week of Dec. 17.

During the drill Friday, public information officers will provide several updates via traditional and social media.

Wofford said the purpose of the drill is "to observe and evaluate immediate tactical response to an active shooter; and identify gaps, lapses, and/or needs in training, policies, procedures or resources."
