Napa County Reads hosts Kickoff Event with Brandi Chastain and Andrea Montalbano

NAPA–  Playing soccer and promoting reading is a winning combination! Napa County Reads invites the public to its Kickoff Event on Tuesday, September 25 at Memorial Stadium in Napa! Meet Brandi Chastain, Olympian, NCAA and World Cup soccer star, and Andrea Montalbano, author of Breakaway and Lily Out of Bounds from the Soccer Sisters Series.


The event begins at 3:30 p.m. and tickets are $3 for adults, free for students with ID, and $1 for students without ID. Dinner and snacks will be available.


A Middle School Soccer Jamboree will be held at 4:00 p.m. featuring teams from Redwood, Silverado, Harvest, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Blue Oak.

At 7:00 p.m. an Alumni Soccer Game will be played featuring coaches Jorge Ruiz Chavez and Bernie Ochoa, former Coach of the Year Award recipients. The announcer will be radio personality Ira C. Smith, and featuring mixed high school alumni from 1995 to 2005.


Napa County Reads is an annual literacy program co-partnered by the Napa County Office of Education and the Napa County Library. The program promotes literacy education by selecting an inspirational book to be read by middle school students and the community. Each year’s program is augmented by author visits and countywide events to encourage a lifelong love of reading.
