On November 18, 1978, nine hundred-nine people died in the jungles of Guyana in the settlement known as Jonestown. Five more were murdered at a nearby airstrip by Jonestown members. All but two of those who died in Jonestown did so from apparent cyanide poisoning at the order of their charismatic leader, Jim Jones. After decades enshrouded in secrecy, the stories of Jonestown survivors are now being told, many for the first time. In a quest to make sense of the inexplicable-and perhaps find healing in the process-The People's Temple explores this historic event with a candor only hindsight can provide.
