Ferry Schedules Expanded for Big San Francisco Weekend

According to a release from San Francisco Bay Ferry, ferry service "will more than triple its normal weekend capacity between the East Bay and San Francisco, and double service between Vallejo and San Francisco, this weekend October 6 & 7, 2012.   The extra service is needed because of the confluence of events in and Around San Francisco this weekend."

The release goes on to say "tens of thousands of people are expected to converge on San Francisco over an unprecedented weekend of concurrent special events including Fleet Week, America’s Cup trials, Giants’ playoffs, 49ers football, Castro Street Fair, and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, among others – San Francisco Bay Ferry is ramping up to serve passengers during what could be one of the City’s busiest and most traffic congested weekends of the year."

Napa and Solano County ferry riders will have four additional Vallejo departures to choose from during the weekend of October 6-7. The first ferry is scheduled to leave Vallejo at 8:30 a.m. and service will continue every one-and-a-half hours until 7:30 p.m. both days. The last ferry back to Vallejo will depart Pier 41 at 8:40 p.m.

East Bay residents can take advantage of ferries on the Alameda-Oakland- San Francisco route running every 30-45 minutes beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Main Street Terminal in Alameda.  The last ferry from San Francisco to the East Bay will depart the Ferry Building at 10:45 p.m. 

San Francisco Giants fans who are going to the games this weekend can catch a boat going directly to AT&T Park.  Direct ferry service to AT&T Park departs Alameda Main Street at 4:40 p.m., Oakland Jack London Square at 4:50 p.m., and the Vallejo ferry terminal at 4:30 p.m.

BART is also running extra trains this weekend to help relieve congestion on the bridges and city streets.
