Update: 'Head Fire' Spreads To 95 Acres As Crews Battle Rugged Napa-Lake County Terrain

NAPA VALLEY, CA — Firefighters are battling a fast-growing vegetation fire in steep terrain near the Napa, Lake, and Yolo county lines after the blaze expanded to 95 acres Monday morning, sending smoke across much of Northern Napa County.

The "Head Fire" was reported at 6:26 a.m. near Berryessa Knoxville Road, close to the Napa-Lake county line, according to Cal Fire.

Fueled by winds and burning in rugged terrain, the fire had grown to 95 acres by 10 a.m.

Cal Fire and Napa County Fire crews launched an aggressive air and ground response to slow the fire's spread. Still, zero percent of the fire had been contained as of 10 a.m.

Fire officials assigned 11 engines, seven water tenders, five hand crews, four bulldozers, one helicopter, and multiple fixed-wing aircraft to the incident.

Officials said smoke will remain visible across much of Northern Napa County as firefighters continue trying to suppress the fire.

So far, no evacuation orders have been issued.

Authorities have not determined the cause of the fire and have not released additional information about damage or injuries.
