NAPA COUNTY, CA — With Fourth of July approaching, the city of Napa Fire Department reminded residents that the sale, discharge or possession of fireworks, even the so-called "safe and sane" variety, is illegal in the cities of Napa, American Canyon and Calistoga, the town of Yountville and all unincorporated areas of Napa County.

"Fire crackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles and other devices that explode, move along the ground, or travel through the air are classified as dangerous fireworks and are banned throughout the state of California," Napa fire Marshal Gregory Fortune said in a news release.

Under state and local law, fireworks found in the city will be confiscated, and the person or people found in possession of them or seen using them may be issued a citation.

"It is fire season DO NOT use fireworks! The use of fireworks within the City of Calistoga and the County of Napa are illegal. Under no circumstances are residents, businesses or visitors permitted to use them for any purpose. We have entered into fire season and have already experienced our first Red Flag event. The use of fireworks dramatically increases the risk of causing a fire within our community. We all have a responsibility to make every effort to reduce and eliminate activities that could lead to a wildfire. If a family member, a friend or a neighbor are engaging in this activity please tell them to stop immediately. If their illegal action continues or you witness someone this type of activity please report it to the Calistoga Police Department immediately at 942-2810. We must all work together to keep our community safe!"
