2015 Guidelines
The Lenore Hirsch-Jay Falk/Waller-Crafford Scholarship benefits Napa County high school seniors that are graduating. Previous recipients, who are currently attending college are eligible to apply again in subsequent years.

Who’s Eligible
- Napa County high school seniors that are graduating, and who have worked hard to overcome academic challenges, and will attend a two- or four-year college program in general education. Although not a requirement, applications are strongly encouraged from students who:
- have learning disabilities
- attended a continuation high school in Napa County
- Previous recipients of the scholarship completing their first, second, or third year of college.
How to Apply
Email the items (as attachments) listed below to Ellen Drayton at ellend@napavalleycf.org (if you don’t have access to email, please call to make other arrangements):
If you are a graduating high school senior:
full name, phone number and permanent address
name of high school you attend
current grade level
short essay (no more than 500 words) in response to this question: “Please describe the academic challenges you have overcome and tell us why you want to go to college.”
Letter of support from a teacher, counselor or administrator
If you are a previous recipient of the scholarship:
full name, phone number and permanent address
name of college or university you attend
current transcript showing credits and grades
short essay (no more than 500 words) in response to this question: “Please describe any changes in your career or academic goals and the progress you have made toward these goals.”
letter of support from a member of the college staff

TED KOHLER MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP
2015 Grant Guidelines
The Ted Kohler Music Scholarship benefits Calistoga students who are committed to music and wish to advance their musical development. The Ted Kohler Scholarship was established in 1997 to promote musical participation and aspirations in honor of Ted, who upon retirement from San Francisco State University, became a full-time musician and leader of the Napa Valley Jazz Band. He encouraged people of all ages to express themselves musically.
Who’s Eligible
Students must be residents of Calistoga, and in grades 7-12 or high school graduates.
How to Apply
Students should send a one page letter (150 words or less) of application to:

The George and Gwendolyn Goodin Scholarship Fund
2015 Guidelines
The George and Gwendolyn Goodin Endowment Fund provides one-year college and university scholarships to Napa County residents who are military veterans, or Napa County residents who are dependents of military veterans who died while in active service. The number of scholarships awarded and the amount of each scholarship will be determined by the Fund’s Scholarship Selection Committee, and the value of each scholarship will typically range from $1,000 to $5,000.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: March 6, 2015.
Who’s Eligible:
Candidates must be residents of Napa County at the time of application
Candidates must be military veterans, or children/spouses of military veterans who died while in active service
For the purpose of this scholarship, a military veteran is someone who has served in active duty other than for training purposes and has been discharged in anything other than dishonorable conditions. Special consideration may be made for individuals who did not meet active duty requirements due to discharge for a service connected disability
Candidates must be attending, or planning to attend a two- or four-year college/university pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies, or a vocational college (the school you plan to attend may be outside of Napa County)
Candidates must be in good standing with the school attended most recently, and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.0 with that institution, or have received a California High School Equivalency Certificate by passing the General Educational Development Test (GED)
Former recipients are eligible to apply again in subsequent years
How to Apply:
Candidates must submit a completed application form, including the required attachments, to Ellen Drayton, Grants Administrator, via email at ellend@napavalleycf.org on or before March 6, 2015.
Selection process:
A Scholarship Selection Committee (Committee) comprised of veterans, Napa Valley Community Foundation (NVCF) staff and staff of local veteran-serving organizations will select recipients. In any given year, scholarship awards may not be issued if the Committee determines that none of the candidates meet the eligibility guidelines and application criteria.
Candidates will be judged on the following criteria:
Accuracy and completeness of application packet
Educational goals and ability to meet those goals
Payment process: NVCF will issue a check to the financial aid office of the student’s school contingent upon enrollment verification. Scholarship Funds may be used for any educational expenses included in the cost of attending the college, vocational college, or university, like tuition, books, fees or equipment required for coursework. If the student’s account is paid in full, the scholarship may be refunded to the student for other attendance expenses. If the student is unable to use any portion of the scholarship towards his/her cost of attendance, we request that the school return such funds to NVCF.

This Scholarship Fund is administered by Napa Valley Community Foundation.

THE FRUIT OF THE VINE SCHOLARSHIP
2015 Guidelines
The Fruit of the Vine Scholarship Fund benefits graduating Napa County high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college/university and will find the cost of higher education a financial hardship. Previous recipients who are currently attending college are eligible to apply
again in subsequent years.

Who’s Eligible
Napa County graduating high school seniors
Candidate must be in good standing and have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
of at least 3.0
Candidate must be planning to attend an accredited four-year college/university pursuing
undergraduate study in any field
Consideration will be given to the:
candidate’s financial need
candidate’s community involvement
Although not a requirement, applications are strongly encouraged from first generation
college students (i.e. neither parent has obtained a Bachelor’s Degree)
Previous recipients of the scholarship completing their first, second, or third year of college

CRITERIA AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS
EDWARD W. SOLOMON SCHOLARSHIP and JUDITH B. CUTCOMB SCHOLARSHIP
PURPOSE:
Two $1000 Edward W. Solomon scholarships and one $750 Judith B. Cutcomb Scholarships are offered by the Napa Valley Retired Teachers Association and administered through the Napa Valley Community Foundation. They are awarded in memory of two valley educators, Dr. Edward W. Solomon and Judith B. Cutcomb. The Solomon Scholarship is given to support current Napa County teachers/educators, and the Cutcomb Scholarship may support current St. Helena Unified School District teachers or a graduate of St. Helena High School studying to be an educator.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
Through a written application and an interview, candidates will be judged on the following
criteria:
1. Timely and full completion of the written application. Application (on reverse) must be received by March 6,
2015
2. Willingness to participate in an interview with the selection committee if you application successfully passes through the preliminary screening.
3. Strong rationale for requesting the scholarship (in your personal letter).
4. Long-range goals and time line for their achievement (in your personal letter).
5. Potential for the funds being used to maximize educational benefit to the students and staff of Napa Valley schools (in your personal letter).
6. Your perspective on the current field of education, including its challenges.
7. Effective personal and communication skills, both written and oral.
8. Candidates for both scholarships must meet the above 7 criteria and the additional criteria for the scholarship(s) requested:
• EDWARD W. SOLOMON SCHOLARSHIP candidates must:
Wish to pursue upper division college/university coursework in order to strengthen their teacher preparation and
Demonstrate the potential for academic success by having been accepted in a college or university upper division or graduate level education program or course. Community college courses are
acceptable only for current teachers who want/need to supplement their credential authorizations, and if the community college course is acceptable to the CTC Credentialing Office.
• JUDITH B. CUTCOMB SCHOLARSHIP candidates must wish to pursue college/university coursework in order to strengthen their preparation.
They must also be:
A teacher/educator employed by the St. Helena Unified School District
OR
A graduate of St. Helena High School having completed the second year of college in the field of education, but not necessarily employed by the St. Helena Unified School District.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS:
• Candidates whose applications successfully pass through the preliminary screening will be invited to a personal
interview to be held on Friday, March 20 in Room TBA at the Napa Valley Unified School District Office. Please
indicate a time preference from among the choices on the application.
• Scholarship awardees are invited to the May 19, 2015 luncheon of the Napa Valley Retired Teachers Association as their guests. The luncheon meeting is held at the Elk’s Club in Napa.
• An awarded scholarship shall be used by December 1st of the year awarded.
