A Story of Food, Music and Fashion

African and African-inspired fashions, food and music set the stage for the North Bay Black Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Black History Month Celebration: A Story of Food, Music and Fashion.

The event takes place 6 p.m. Saturday February 7 atSpreckels Performing Arts Center, 5409 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park.

The evening’s flashback fashions courtesy of Malia Anderson Style range from African to Motown. There will also be tributes to gospel and to the 1950’s Dorothy Jean Dandrigde era. Dandrigde, an African-American film and theatre actress, singer and dancer was the first black actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Carmen Jones.

The runway extravaganza will be accompanied by the awarding winning sounds of Ric Alexander and his 2wo-4our-1ne band. Other highlights include soul food and Caribbean jerked chicken and BBQ prepared by Red Rose Catering and The Nati catering. Raffle proceeds benefit Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow Foundation.

Ric Alexander: Alexander, an innovative figure in contemporary music, is an experienced saxophonist, songwriter and producer known for playing two saxophones simultaneously. An award-winning musician, he recently took top honors in the Dave Koz Music Cruise contest and is founder of Jazzy Jamz Productions.

NBBCC is comprised of local business owners, potential business owners, professional and business partners and alliances dedicated to promoting, supporting and enhancing all businesses, in particular black-owned businesses. This is accomplished through various network venues and forming partnerships and alliances with business entities offering business contracts and various business opportunities.

Cost is $35/non-members, $25/members and free for children 12 and under. $10 discount on tickets purchased by January 23.
