Gyms, Nail Salons Among Napa County Businesses Allowed To Reopen

Businesses including movie theaters, massage therapy and gyms can now reopen in Napa County, whereas face coverings are now mandatory.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Napa County updated its coronavirus-related public health order Friday by making it a requirement that everyone, at all times, wears a face covering when inside a public place and when in line to enter a public place.

The change to the county's order incorporates the new statewide requirement from the California Department of Public Health that also makes it mandatory to wear face masks outside when 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained between people from different households. Those exempt from wearing face coverings are children 2 or younger and people who have a medical condition and would have difficulty breathing when wearing a mask.

Napa County's modified order also allows more businesses to open; As of Friday, movie theaters, indoor gyms, indoor pools and fitness studios were permitted to reopen, as were business where personal services are provided including nail salons, spas, massage therapy and cosmetology.

Businesses that were allowed to reopen as of June 5 in Napa County included: retail stores, shopping malls and swap meets; dine-in restaurants; limited personal services, hair salons and barber shops; schools and child care; casinos and card rooms; day camps and children’s activities; bars, tasting rooms and wineries; camping; hotels; outdoor pools; family entertainment centers such as bowling, batting cages, mini-golf; museums; film/television/music production; and professional sports without an audience.

4th Coronavirus Death In Napa County

The county reported the death Wednesday of a fourth resident from the coronavirus. The county did not reply to Patch's requests for information about the death such as the person's age and city of residence.

The number of coronavirus cases in Napa County surpassed 200 this week, including 10 cases reported Friday, bringing the total number to 216, with 122 in the city of Napa, 32 in the city of Calistoga, 31 in the city of American Canyon and 7 in the city of St. Helena.

With testing available for anyone who lives or works in the Napa County, a total 15,996 people have been tested for the virus. Of those tested, 15,727 tested negative and results were pending for 53 people.

Fifty-seven percent of residents who tested positive were exposed by an unknown community contact, 29 percent were exposed by a member of their household, seven percent were exposed by a friend, relative or co-worker from a different household, three percent were exposed when traveling and two percent were exposed by working in the health care field.
