Heads Up, Napa Drivers: Camera System Reinstalled at 1st and Jefferson

The red light camera will become operational on Friday.

News from the Napa Police Department:

The Napa Police Department has reinstalled the red light camera system at Jefferson and 1st Streets in the City of Napa. This camera system was originally installed in 2009 and was operational until just over a year ago when it was temporarily removed due to the reconfiguration of that intersection for two-way traffic on 1st Street.

The camera system, which will monitor south-bound traffic on Jefferson Street, will go “live” on Friday, May 15, 2015.

For a period of 30 days, red light violators will be mailed a warning notice. On June 15, 2015, red light violators at this intersection will begin to receive citations by mail. When a citation is issued and received by the violator, it will include a referral to a website where the violator can view the still and/or video images of the violation.

Increased traffic safety is the number one priority of the Napa Police Department Red Light Photo Enforcement System. Studies have shown a significant reduction in red-light related crashes at photo-enforced intersections.
